D’oyly Carte Opera Hosts Gilbert & Sullivan Day On D’Oyly Carte Island

July 3, 2026 - D’Oyly Carte Island, UK The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company presented Gilbert & Sullivan Day, a festive celebration with music, food, beverages and heritage, on D'Oyly Carte Island, on Friday July 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Set on the historic island in the Thames that was once the country retreat of impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte, the event attracted hundreds of guests who spent a summer's day immersed in the music that defined the Victorian stage. Four soloists from the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company performed many of the best-loved songs from the Gilbert & Sullivan canon:

William Morgan, Tenor
Richard Suart, Baritone

The performance was presented in three 30-minute sections, with intervals between them giving guests time to explore the Melvyn Tarran Collection of Gilbert & Sullivan memorabilia, displayed across the ballroom, entrance hall and dining room of the island's Eyot House. Exquisite food and drink were served throughout the day, and visitors were welcome to wander the island and take in its rich heritage in music, culture and entertainment.

Remarking on celebration, L. M. Levie, Chairman of The D'Oyly Carte Foundation, stated:
